Revisiting Noether's Theorem on constants of motion

چکیده

In this paper we revisit Noether's theorem on the constants of motion for Lagrangian mechanical systems in ODE case, with some new perspectives both theoretical and applied side. We make full use invariance up to a divergence, or, as call it here, Bessel-Hagen (BH) invariance. By recognizing that function need not be total time derivative, can easily deduce nonlocal motion. prove always trivialize either change or BH-function, so that, particular, BH-invariance turns out more general than original also propose version simplifies key formulas. Applications include Lane-Emden equation, dissipative systems, homogeneous potentials superintegrable systems. Most notably, give two derivations Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector Kepler's problem require space only, without BH invariance, one Lagrange e...

The Symmetries of Equivalent Lagrangian Systems and Constants of Motion

In this paper Mathematical structure of time-dependent Lagrangian systems and their symmetries are extended and the explicit relation between constants of motion and infinitesimal symmetries of time-dependent Lagrangian systems are considered. Starting point is time-independent Lagrangian systems ,then we extend mathematical concepts of these systems such as equivalent lagrangian systems to th...

Evolving Constants of Motion

A critical presentation of Rovelli’s “evolving constants of motion” is given. Previous criticisms by Kuchař concerning the role of factor ordering and the non-existence of observables are dealt with and shown to be unfounded. Kuchař’s criticisms that this approach does not solve the global, multiple choice or Hilbert space problems of time are confirmed, and new insight into why this is so is o...

Revisiting the Rice Theorem of Cellular Automata

A cellular automaton is a parallel synchronous computing model, which consists in a juxtaposition of finite automata whose state evolves according to that of their neighbors. It induces a dynamical system on the set of configurations, i.e. the infinite sequences of cell states. The limit set of the cellular automaton is the set of configurations which can be reached arbitrarily late in the evol...

Revisiting Hartert’s 1962 Calculation of the Physical Constants of Thrombelastography

Thrombelastography (TEG)/thromboelastometry (ROTEM) devices measure viscoelastic clot strength as clot amplitude (A). Transformation of clot amplitude into clot elasticity (E with TEG; CE with ROTEM) is sometimes necessary (eg, when calculating platelet component of the clot). With TEG, clot amplitude is commonly transformed into shear modulus (G; expressed in Pa or dyn/cm2) as follows: G = (50...
